Hot weather can affect energy levels and cause sleepiness as the body tries to maintain a stable body temperature. When the weather is hot, the body undergoes changes to cool itself, one of which is by expanding the blood vessels in the skin to help release heat.

The effect of this process is that more blood will flow to the surface of the skin, which causes blood pressure to drop slightly. As a result, you may feel a little less energetic or sleepy. Apart from that, dehydration due to high temperatures can also make you feel tired.

Apart from that, there are several reasons why someone can feel sleepy during the day. One of them is an inadequate or poor quality sleep pattern the previous night. Sleep disorders such as lack of sleep, disturbed sleep, or not getting enough sleep in the long term can make a person more easily sleepy during the day.

Factors such as heavy food consumption or high sugar intake can trigger an increase in blood sugar followed by a decrease in energy, which can make you feel sleepy. Physical inactivity or lack of movement can also affect alertness levels and cause drowsiness.

Daytime heat can cause various health problems

Hot temperatures during the day can make the atmosphere feel uncomfortable. In some areas, especially in summer, temperatures can rise very high during the day. This high temperature can make a person feel uncomfortable and can even have negative effects on health, including:

  • Dehydration. When the air is hot, the body will sweat to cool itself. The sweat released can cause dehydration. Dehydration can cause fatigue, decreased concentration, and drowsiness.
  • Heat stroke. Heat stroke is a condition that occurs when the body temperature reaches 40 degrees Celsius or more. Heat stroke can cause organ damage and even death.
  • Skin damage. Excessive sun exposure can cause skin damage, such as sunburn and skin cancer.

It is important to keep yourself well hydrated in hot weather. Drink enough water and avoid exposure to direct sunlight for too long. Clothing that is comfortable and made from light materials and using protection such as a hat or umbrella can also help protect the body from excessive heat.

If possible, finding a shady place or a place with air conditioning can help keep the body cool. In addition, avoiding excessive physical activity in direct sunlight can help prevent fatigue or health problems related to overheating.
